Tribute to VAL

Val Herbert, who retired from our office at the end of last year at the ripe old age of 77, having worked for over 20 years as our bond registration specialist, has passed away after a short illness.

We pay tribute to Val for her tireless, loyal and dedicated work over all those years. Val loved a party and we had many with her dancing around the pole, enjoying our sea cruises and being the life of the party. She was reknowned for her expertise in registering mortgage bonds for the banks and routinely had Mc Naught and Company up in Standard Bank's top-10 for registration efficiency in Kwa-Zulu Natal. An avid bowler she will also be sorely missed by her friends at Wentworth Bowling Club where she notched up several victories over the years.

Mika is a new Attorney and Conveyancer

Congratulations to Mika from our Amanzimtoti office who was admitted to practice as an Attorney and Conveyancer simultaneously on Friday 6 June. The three judges of the full bench of the High Court in Pietermaritzburg enthused that it was unusual for a double admission as both an attorney and conveyancer.

Articles

Mika served her 2 years Articles with Dave and was did both general law training as well as mortgage bonds and property transfers during her articles and then passed both the attorneys admission and conveyancing exams to qualify for the simultaneous admission and dual qualification.

Mika stays on with Mc Naught and Company at our Amanzimtoti office as a Professional Assistant to the firm. Excellent achievement Mika!!          Mc Naught and Company website

Dinosaurs live!

My Mom (left) turns 80 today and she is still working part-time at Mc Naught and Co. Incredible.

Mom joined Mc Naught and Co as our conveyancing para-legal after a high-powered career with SA Breweries in Johannesburg and when she moved to Durban, Clements and Johnson Attorneys.

Mom worked tirelessly for me at the Bluff office until she retired in her 60s and re-located to my brother's smallholding in Johannesburg. She lived there for over 5 years until he sold up and emigrated to New Zealand. Mom and Gordon then returned to Durban to be closer to her family and friends and re-joined Mc Naught and Co in a part-time capacity, but coming to work 3 mornings a week, which she has been doing through her 70s, now reaching the milestone age of 80!

Mom aka Molly and Val (right) who heads up our bonds department at the Bluff office are living proof that dinosaurs did exist many moons ago. Well done to the 2 old ducks for keeping the office incredibly efficient for so many years - our oldest and loyal employees!!

Thanks Mom for your incredible hard work and commitment to my business over all of these years. Have an awesome birthday today and party with your family and friends on Sunday.

We honour

Our Bluff staff take a minute out of our day to honour those whose contribution to the war effort during the 1st World War preserved the world we know today. It was poppy day, or Armistace Day or Remembrance Day as it is variously known, although it proved impossible to find poppies around town and I had to make my own. We honour the sacrifices made to bring peace to the world.

It was the Bluff office party and an opportunity for staff to socialise and meet with some of our "old" friends and associates... it's been a while since we have had a party at the Bluff, preferring our new Toti offices for this purpose. But Bluff is our main office so it was great to see our local friends.

In the top photo are our staff complement Molly, Val, Bobby, Patrick, myself (Dave), Sharon, Mark and Tracey-Lee. We are joined (second photo) by Ronel, Estelle and Llewellyn, and 3rd photo by Rob and his girls from Seeff. In the 4th photo Lorraine and Dee from Eagle Estates join Dave's Mom Molly who works part-time at the Bluff office since she retired from her full-time job there several years ago.

World Cup boost

South Africa has earned itself a shot in the arm with the World Cup football and we have been delighted to be a part of the action with the exciting events here in Durban leading up to the Round 16 game and semi-final this month. This will hopefully keep the property market buoyant and already the confidence is showing in increased sales.

The office staff were getting into the 2010 swing of things with support for our Bafana Bafana team and are sad to see us out of the World Cup now. Click to check out Dave's World Cup blog here.

Welcome to Patrick

The Toti office welcomes Patrick Forbes, who is completing his Articles with Mc Naught and Company.

Patrick is a Michaelhouse scholar who finished his LLB law degree at Rhodes University; he played hockey for Eastern Province and Water Polo for SA u16, taught in the UK and Vietnam and worked on yachts in the Caribbean before returning to South Africa.

Bluff bowlers

Bowls: Staff members Sharon (left) and Val (right) are the bowling girls of the office and here they pose with Val’s veteran’s trophy at a recent competition—we are sure that “veteran” must be the 80 years old category, as Val is rolling in that direction fast.
